I personally don't think it should be you thanking us. It really should be the other way around.

Thank you for giving me such good moments reading your insightful texts and may you continue for many years to come.
I'll drink to many more DG posts!

And I'll echo Caravelle's sentiments - thanks for wriritng the first thing I read each (weekday) morning.
...and so say all of us.
If not the first thing - at least the second. Thanks DG
This is one of the few sites on the internet that I deem too important to just get added to my slightly swamped Google Reader feed, so I visit the website directly (often first thing in the morning).

Many thanks DG!
Agree blogging has become a bit more reflective but there will always be a place for it in my view. Twitter has a lot of immediacy and can alert you to a lot of interesting stuff. Facebook can find people to do interesting stuff with. Never done Reddit so don't know about that. I think what came out of Social Media Week for me was how its now all about content and new ways of interacting. People love video at the moment and prose may look a bit old hat. But the cream will always rise to the top.
I am just reading the National Trust Autumn 2012 magazine, which has an article on page 57 entitled "Beautiful Blogs", followed by the line "We've a growing army of National Trust Bloggers, here are..a few to sample"
Followed by a listing of sites.
So it seem they, or their members, may be bucking the general declining trend as they have "a growing number".
The sites they list are hosted either with blogspot or wordpress.
Congratulations.

My site still exists and still links to you, but is getting about one post per month at the moment. Must rectify that.
Congratulations. Like many others, I visit almost every day. Emile's NT Treasure Hunt blog is one of my favourites, but it is not daily. http://nttreasurehunt.wordpress.com/
Congratulations DG! But, I wonder how many visits it is really, if one could count the feed readers? Millions more, no doubt.

I do feel that feed reading takes the fun out of visiting blogs. Click - have they are haven't they updated? But then I don't try to keep up with hundreds as therein lies the route to stress.
Warning - Planarchy

I get a Malware warning in Kaspersky when this link is opened. The address appears to be easystatsanalytics.org.

I block the easystats link. It might be malware, or it's possible that it might just be Kaspersky misinterpreting the content

dg writes: There's nothing overtly scary about the Planarchy blog. It's just Wordpress, so I suspect Kaspersky is over-reacting.
Thanks DG. Glad that 'normal service has been resumed'.
re. RSS and page hits. I quite often start reading via Google Reader, and then go to the real page to look at the comments - so analysing those stats is quite difficult!
Hooray! I finally did it. I thought I'd never make it into the league.

I actually think it's a sad reflection on my existence that am genuinely a bit excited about this.
...that came out a bit wrong. What I mean is that I like this cos it actually means something to me, because I've always really enjoyed your blog DG.
Here's to many more visitors, too - even as the internet changes and traffic flows in different ways, one thing has remained the same - a DG post a day! And long may it continue. Huzzah!
Congratulations DG – a truly great blog (we're lucky to have a fair few).

Long may it continue in this brilliant city of ours.
