Well, I'm pleased that Stonebridge gets the Diamond Geezer seal of approval. The team involved in doing that development worked really hard to make it as good as as it could be. The homes there are really carefully designed and the interiors are, by new housing standards, spacious. It has won lots of awards and deservedly so.

Fascinating. Really fascinating.

I've always seen the Central Line as red on the map, with the East London Line/London Overground as orange.

Stonebridge is, of course, home to one of London's most famous cafes (www.ace-cafe-london.com). Almost exactly four years ago you mentioned that you were sticking it on your 'to-do list'. I wonder if you got there this time?

I concur with NLW on the Central Line colour. Although you are probably going to tell us that the nearest station is overground.

Those acutely angled windows are called Oriel Windows. Don't know why. But there you go.

When you come to do Diamond Terrace in the (now Royal) Borough of Greenwich pop in for a cuppa!

South Ruislip what memories, I lived on Queens Walk back in 1959.
Back in those days South Ruislip was on the Central line and colour was red.

According to the OED, the word "oriel" is derived from Anglo-Norman oriell and post-classical Latin oriolum, both meaning gallery or porch, perhaps from classical Latin aulaeum, curtain

@Michael-Central Line is still red.

dg are you one of the 8%?

Yay a new series to look forward to. I was wondering when/what it was going to be.

If the most interesting thing about today's post is what colour the Central line is, then I may just be wasting my time :)

These Oriel windows are not restricted to Metroland, we had them in North Cheam, Surrey on the 'Brock's Estate'. A development built in the 1930's on the former firework factory. It was closed down because it was considered too dangerous as a test ground near homes. Perhaps you should consider visiting this area sometime. The houses are very similar, but arranged in blocks of four, not semis.

Agree with tintinhaddock, Diamond Terrace is an interesting road in (royal) Greenwich. Really more of a lane with an interesting mix of houses and a few country cottages. Walk down westgrove lane while you're in the area too DG, its nice too!

Good and intersting idea. Without dusting off the A-Z, how many Diamonds are there?

@dg Darlin, you are NEVER a waste of time.

We're just a load of pedants. Or something.

Wow. I'm normally a fan of highrise living (when properly designed), but the old Stonebridge just looks like hell. I hope the architects were shot. It makes Heygate looks pleasant.

Missed this at the time [it now being 31 December] - isn't Diamond Terrace a..er..gem of a road - arguably Greenwich's loveliest.

Happy New Year and well done again on a truly fabulous blog.
