The new Transport Secretary describes the funding for Crossrail as established, though that doesn't mean it will still open in 2016 as foecast. So eventual relief for east-west travel.

No such commitment for the Thameslink expansion, and there are more north-south black bits than east-west. Breathe in there, fellow passengers on the Victoria and Piccadilly lines...

What's that extra line between Putney and Bank via Piccadilly Circus and Charring Cross, it looks like?

Rubbish! GOBLIN westbound (Harringay Green Lanes -> Upper Holloway) should be as black as the Victoria line.

Putney via Bank etc.. - Chelney line??
More interesting what's the bit between Walthamstow Central and Stratford.
DLR going further south from Lewisham??

Sorry to quibble DG but Bruce Grove and Tottenham Hale are on different branches of the West Anglia lines out of Liverpool Street.

The likely pinch points coming south are Edmonton Green and Ponders End on the respective Enfield Town / Stansted branches.

dg writes: Sorry, that should have been Bruce Grove to Seven Sisters. And it is now.

The map actually shows 2006 levels, not 2010 levels.

Also worth pointing out that these particular maps aggregate all services along a particular link (station-to-station pair) into one measure... so it can be misleading where a busy branch meets a less busy one. So for example:

- Piccadilly trains from Heathrow don't magically become less busy east of Acton Town, it's just that the less busy Rayners Lane ones average out the crowding level.
- Same is true for DLR services heading towards Bank... before they get to Shadwell, the crowding is average out with Tower Gateway services

On rail it's more misleading, as it averages fast services with slow services, e.g.:
- Bromley South to Victoria is very crowded on fast services but not on slow services - the result ing average is slightly odd

They're very useful maps but the rule of thumb is that if a link shows black then it's definitely very crowded, but just because it doesn't show as black doesn't mean that a lot of the trains using it aren't crowded. Geddit?

It might be better also to have a station map available as well as a route map: What is the average crowding of trains calling at each station? That way, if Bromley South trains have plenty of seats available, but no one can get on a train at West Dulwich, some of the anomalies suggested by Dave A would be easier to catch.
