Stratford High Street - an excellent way of getting off the LU/LO/NR network without a ticket, even more convenient than Maryland.

Stratford International HS is an incredibly useful way of getting from East Anglia to Kent, but now they are getting rid of the bus service linking the two stations. It was actually quite good, but signs inside the HS station advise passengers to walk through Westfield to transfer between the two Stratford stations, no mention of DLR.

The signs at StratInt say the shuttle bus to Stratford Re'al will continue to operate until September 20th, which is a whole week after Westfield is scheduled to open. Do they know something we don't?

the buses were indeed operating yesterday, but I saw absolutely no-one using them. There were a smattering of people using the DLR to get to the HS1 station, but I think the "First Day" track bashers (like me) outnumbered them.

I got off the International DLR station to see about 5 or 6 people... Get on the bus! ... because it's free (part of their HS ticket) and didn't need an additional ticket/Oyster to use the DLR. So the bus is still being used.

It all has that 'new concrete' smell, clean and nice. But yes - more bashers (even including a grandmother and a 12 year old girl wearing a West Ham shirt that I saw) were the only real passengers.

At Abbey Road (i walked to it) the guy outside on the road looked genuinely excited when i approached. "A Passenger!" he thought. "Somone to give a leaflet to!". And then he realised i had a leaflet already...

"Track Bashers" LOL I suppose my son and I were track bashers last year when the East London line re-opened.

Thanks as always DG and for the tweet confirming the non opening on Tuesday!

Think I might just bash me some track this weekend...

:o)

is "self-aware escalators" a technical term ?

"Stratford High Street - an excellent way of getting off the LU/LO/NR network without a ticket" : Do train captains (or the apparently more pc "passenger service agents" or psa's) still check tickets ? Mind you, they'd be hard-pressed to check a whole train between Stratford 'Reg' and Stratford HiSt !

@Max Roberts: probably no mention of DLR because while the bus service is 'definitely' coming off on 20/9, when the poster was printed, DLR was still non-committal as to when its service to International was going to start !

I don't understand why they don't make the Stratford International to Regional DLR journey free of charge. There is a precedent with the Heathrow Express between terminals.

How unfair DG - you went and snapped all the stations yourself! No boost to my Flickr view count ;-)

I look forward to the rest of the article.

Re self aware escalators. Before stepping on one be aware that it has a green light showing thus going in the direction you want to travel.

Don't make the mistake I did and step on one with a red light. It started going down as I tried to go up!!

In my defence I thought it was just broken and thus why it was not moving.

Finally the DLR Stratford International - Canning Town line is up and running at last!

Can i plug this video? I can! thx... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V_hoK8GuZA
