Depends what you mean by 'normal'. I'm sure that the popular image of 'normal', i.e. vast multi-household gatherings, are a bad idea, but I'm not so sure that that really is the norm. If normal is staying in for a week with your nuclear family and going out for long walks, then that doesn't sound such a bad idea.
I think much depends on circumstances. At our house there will be 9 people - 7 adults, 2 children. All adults are triple vaccinated, and only three adults haven't had Covid - everyone else had it in the last two months. I suspect our house will be pretty safe. Will all houses be that safe? Doubt it.

However I strongly suspect any attempt to impose restrictions would have widely been ignored. I joked to family I was going to issue employment contracts so we could have wine and cheese gatherings if restrictions came into play. But whilst that was a joke, let's not underestimate the corrosive effect of Boris Partygate on trying to enforce anything.

So yeah, I'm sitting on the fence.
We'd already basically shelved plans to visit elderly relatives before any announcement, and then we both caught omicron anyway, so decision made!
I said in the last poll that the decision would be left to us and the blame game would follow in January!

We only ever meet as a group of 10 - being the immediate family, most of whom are either triple jabbed or rarely need to leave the house anymore, so we'll be going ahead as planned.
Although it's the same group for NYE I think I might cancel having everyone round again this time.
I'd agree that it depends on "normal". My parents and brother are coming over on Boxing Day. That's "normal" for us. Admittedly 20 years ago there'd have been 12 of us at my grandparents or something, but that's not normal now.
For me a normal Christmas is just me and my parents and that is also what I had last year as they were my bubble anyway (and I don't live in London). I will do a lateral flow test on Friday so I could yet end up with Christmas on my own for the first time.

Whether it's scientifically/medically sensible or not, I am just desperate for a wider normality now though as mentally and emotionally I've reached a limit.
Unsure on whether a normla Christmas is good simply as the data on Omicron isn't yet reliable...
