An excellent wackypedia entry

One can never be quite sure with you! Actually there are quite a few Purley Cliffs. I wonder which ones you are referring to. They are all created by former dug-out chalk quarries and the ones near Purley and Coulsdon South stations are amongst those that are particulary striking. A few years ago we even had a dramatic cliff rescue at one of them. They had to send out a sea-rescue helicopter from Suffolk. And unlike your article I am not making any of this up.

How many people read that as London 2012 though?

Genius, though I was suspecting something about Northumberland

Least if I was still alive in 2102, I'd be on dry land. I live at a height of around 200m

Hurrah! Excellent.

Very good. And all that at 2 minutes past nine.

I've just started reading Will Self's "The Book Of Dave" yesterday, which envisions a similar watery future for London.

Too soon to say whether I recommend the book yet, but the critics seemed to like it. The maps at the front are good fun though.

better get the scuba gear out then!

You're a clever one, you know.

Very good. My home town on the edge of the Fens would be home to deep sea fish...

The Daily Express, 14 June 2102, has a story on its front page that Diana has been spotted as a mermaid, frockling above what used to be Althrop.

Would that be Binley Woods Village Hall? Or possibly Ryton or Wolston? I'm afraid they would probably be underwater too, judging by today's flooding! Shame, I'm sure Coventry would welcome parliament, it's a friendly place.
Great post. Subtle - particularly the last sentence.

At the Thames Barrier info centre I'm sure I read that the reUK is tilting: the scottish mountains are getter higher and Kent & the SE getting lower. Don't know if London is due to go under THAT soon though.

That bloody dihydrogen monoxide: We were warned it would get us in the end!
gasp, glug, gulg...

ps yes, must admit I read the feeder as "2012" and thought "he's done that, surely? Must be lossing his marbles"

You mean loosing his marbles (attempt at joke)

Exactly: they're floating away.

Sobering, yes.

But did you know that if THE WHOLE of the Arctic icecap melts, it won't make a scrap of difference to the world's water levels?

This is because it's floating already! Different for the Antarctic, though.

Quite right, Temp. But don't forget Greenland, there's a lot of ice sitting on solid land there.

This is a truly inspirational post, DG. Hence the acknowledgments and attempted emulation on mine.

One question: how on earth do you find the time to put your posts together?
