"And there is a footpath on the other side, it's just really hard to get to, with no direct connection."

How exactly do you get to the East bank of the river from Bow Locks, is it via Twelvetrees Crescent or is it a very long detour miles out of the way ?, I have never quite worked out how to get there and your advice would be welcome.
I strapped a pinhole camera to the fence at the end of the cody dock footpath, and left it there for about six months:

The results were not fantastic, but you can see the bridge thing and the part of the sun as it crosses the sky for half a year.
David - I really like those images! Strange and intriguing.

Trying to walk the River Roding is, incidentally, an even more frustrating experience.

Yes it is. You exit Bow Locks via the A12, walk up to Twelvetrees Crescent, pass through the security barrier (because you're a pedestrian and that's fine), cross the bridge, then double back to the right on the far side down to the riverbank.
Thanks DG I shall give it a visit.
Bow Locks... tee hee hee!
There's a footbridge across the river immediately north of the Twelvetrees Crescent bridge and it's marked on the Ordnance Survey map but it's fenced off. Any idea why it's closed and whether it could be brought back into use?
