please empty your brain below

(but whatever happened to Birmingham?)
- Headington but not Oxford,
- Tilehurst but not Reading,
- nothing east of a line from Hull to Brighton except London and: Leigh-on-Sea!
- and, further north, Kirkaldy but not Edinburgh
I feel really lonely here in East Anglia.
I've just called up "Kent, England" and some b*gger has made off with Tunbridge Wells and Chatham. Have we stumbled on a conspiracy?
Just to check... you do realise that Google maps are personally generated and show locations from you search history, rather than "generic" information?

I'm guessing that "Town Centre Mortgages
12A Winchester St Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 7DY" have gamed the Google system somewhat, so I have reported it as an error.
@Briantist, I think it shows that UK map as standard.
Yes, my UK map shows the same as DG, so it's not personalised. But, unlike Timbo, mine shows Edinburgh, rather than Kirkaldy, so perhaps this version of his was customised.

Still, vety curious !
Greetings from 'Town Centre'

Just tried Google Maps and I get the same as DG and Petras409 - seems to be standard - based on search history I would expect a different range of towns
First level to show any cities - London and Birmingham
next level - Glasgow, leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield. Birmingham, Bristol, London, Dublin
next level - still no sign of Belfast, Manchester or Edinburgh, and Birmingham gas gone again, but we do have Elgin, Kirkaldy, Headington, and Leigh on Sea
- next level: Beccles, but not Birmingham, Stockport but not Manchester, Cardiff has been replaced by Pontypridd
-next level: starting to be sensible, although if I was only going to identify eight places within the M25, I doubt that Petts Wood would make the cut!
Mine also shows 'Town Centre', as well as Headington in Oxfordshire, rightfully prioritised above its shabbier sister city a mile or so to the West
... though perhaps it could be the Google engineers having some fun by promoting their own home communities above larger conurbations (like BBC meteorologists do on the weather map from time to time)
Just in case we had forgotten, here is DG's previous post on Cazenove, with site visit. Lots of interesting comments. http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/cazenove.html

Why Beccles?
Just a though; some of the apparently skewed results could be due to the paid advertising that companies do with Google. After all, Google is a for-profit company.
slow news day....
Ah, Town Centres. You've driven miles from home, aren't really sure where you are, and it'd be real nice to find a roadsign to reassure you you're on the right track. In the distance you see a signpost for a roundabout: that'll be the help you need.
You get closer. It says straight on for "Town Centre"
All very well... but tell me something more. WHAT sodding town????? :(
