I was hoping that the funding for the Line would open up this stretch of the Lea, but sadly, at some stage they removed it from the plan and now you have to complete the Line's route by taking the DLR!

It is much needed, not least since the alternative walk, the Limehouse cut is so unpleasant....
Strange how incorrect names get into popular use. "Gasometer" for what is correctly called Gasholder. So common that most people accept it.
I this in an unusual example as most popular names come from a brand. i.e. Hoover for vacuum cleaner, Biro for ball point pen etc.
Wikipedia states that the origin of Gasometer dates back to William Murdock who invented gas lighting and he called his gas container a gazometer, although this term was incorrect as it was a gasholder, the gasometer became the popular name.

Hope the weather is OK for the Cody Wilds party next Sunday. Seems a bit late in the year for such an event.
Thank you for the update DG. You missed the opportunity to point out how well this could tie in with the Dangleway, to complete the walk to the South bank of the Thames...
Voted.
I can think of at least 3 padlocked gates that just need some inspired work with a bolt cropper!

A bit further down the path, what's up with the walkway from the Limmo Peninsula Ecological Park round to Canning Town station? It's locked at both ends for no obvious reason.

Vote early, vote often!
The 'Grow Wild England' link doesn't work.....

a) Sadly, those behind the idea of thinking up one of the crappiest names conceivable had the conceit of trying to have it remembered in stone https://www.flickr.com/photos/32293736@N04/11084395274/
b) I've seen campaigns come and go and it's been great to see that Cody Dock seems to be one that - for at least the last five years - has been staying the distance. Like you, I believe it deserves long term success.
c) Vote placed :)
d) There are events at Cody Dock Saturday as well as Sunday. My pots and pans will be going into use Friday to get some things ready for the midday event, Saturday :)
Thanks DG, will go there this Sunday after my visit to Crossness Pumping Station (engines museum). I have run past Bow Locks so many times and wanted to get to the other side (albeit downstream). Looking forward to learning a bit more about the local patch.
Often see Simon on my trips around here and he seems like a nice guy!
I've voted too. ;O
I think it's interesting that this barren stretch of real estate seems to be one of the least populated areas of London that I've seen you cover. I mean anywhere they're shouting at you for just being there seems like a standout. Never the less it has an interesting culture of sorts.
Thanks for the heads-up DG. I've just voted too.
Cody Dock was part of Open House weekend last month. I visited, approaching from Star Lane station. It has only minimal signposting until you're almost upon it. But I enjoyed my visit.
Glad to see there will finally be the link built between the 2 canals! I used to work on the estate there and it was always a hassle to get to Tesco's walking via the A12!
Voted. Great project, will definitely visit.
I voted for Cody.
Me and my partner explored the Leaway a few weekends back. Our aim was to get down to the Trinity Buoy Wharf but we were cut off by the fence across the path at Cody Dock. Had to take a circuitous route around the backstreets via Canning Town ( we did discover the Caravanserai psite there though). On the way also visited the WW1 memorial put up by the gas company that you have featured here. Ended up on the cafe terrace at Trinity Buoy Wharf on a sunny afternoon.I've lived in Bromley By Buoy since 1975 and never ventured down that side of the Lea before, hope they fully open up the path and the renovated bridge soon.
Living in Star Lane I know the area well, and often walk along the Lea here. Although it isn't easy, with it being blocked off at both ends. But, as you point out it is peaceful, tranquil and spacious.

I have been waiting for years for the Fatwalk/Leaway and Twelvetrees Crescent Bridge crossing. How nice it would be to take a pleasant stroll up to and beyond Three Mills. Perhaps even one day we might be able to walk right into the Olympic Park without leaving the banks of the Lea? Although I suspect I will have moved away before that becomes possible. The walk South under the A13 towards the Thames I don't suppose will ever happen.

There are plenty of people who live nearby, either around Star Lane or on the Bromley by Bow side but, it is incredible how many locals don't even know this area and river walk exist!

Shame on the powers that be for not opening this up sooner, but good on the people - like Cody Dock and The Line - for trying to make it into something special.
