I used to work at a location on Bollo Lane just down the road from Acton Town station and had wondered what the street was named after...

Fascinating about the lost rivers being borough borders! I'll bet even the Boundaries Commission don't know that.

A tributary of the Bollo, if not the Bollo itself runs between Heathfield Rd and Hanbury Rd - through my parents' back garden. The don't seem to have had any problems with it, but the next door neighbour once told them that some years before they bought it (so the 1970's at least) a large portion of the vegetable patch collapsed into a deep hole, from which the sound of running water could be heard...

Also, as per Wikipedia's entry on Acton, the springs that form the Bollo, Warple amd Stamford contributed to the place becoming a health spa(!) for a while, and laterly fed the laundries, which gace rise to South Acton being known as Soapsuds Island
