"which for some reason is represented on its sign by a pineapple"

It might be a reference to the Rothschild estate (there's a Rothschild Road nearby).

I recall reading somewhere that the big greenhouses in the area were famous for pineapples, sure I've read it somewhere!

Where have I heard "bollo" before?

Oh yes, it was one of the words Alex Horne was trying to get into the dictionary in "Wordwatching".

prj45 - When I first moved to London, I lived in Acton, and was utterly perplexed by the local Wetherspoons, The Red Lion and Pineapple. Their website says it took its name from two other local pubs, but you've finally explained the pineapple part of the name. Cheers!

I often cross those two level crossings on Bollo Lane, although I do not regard that area as central London, after all they are in out in Zone 3 territory.
Although one crossing has the regular overground services, a lot of freight trains use the second crossing. A few years ago a regular passenger service crossed there when the Basingstoke to Norwich trains ran. The line links the South West trains track at Brentford/Kew Bridge to the North London Line. They service discontinued due to lack of passengers. It was fun to ride the train just to go along that"freight"line.

"Bollo Lane Junction" link is broken.
It's 13 years old.
I'm not surprised.
And I don't care.
