Yay - I love February and The Count. Go on mystery count. Make it to 1 this year....
Ah yes, the strangely fascinating February count.I know there were rumours last year that the mystery count was something to do with women but was this ever confirmed.
I can say that my Becks count is already double what it reached last February.
February 2013 was about 3.4% shorter than the corresponding month the previous year . Is that allowed for in your comparisons?

dg writes: The Count always terminates on 28th February (so it's always precisely four weeks).
So dg's statistics again. Last February your drinks of tea and Becks were both down and you averaged just over 4 cups of tea per day. Are these mugs of tea I wonder or small cups. Good to see that the readership figures and comments for your blog were up last February. Still a downward trend in escalators walked up, old age creeping on...!
Ideas for mystery count:

1. Number of days you have worn your beautiful yellow socks given to you in the year 19xx by your xxxxxx.

2. Number of days you wear the xxxxxx tie your xxxxxx gave you in 19xx.

3. number of days you decide to do absolutely nothing...including not writing your blog.

4. Number of occasions you visit your GP to seek advice on your OCD.

5. Number of new togs you buy.

6. Number of times you get on to a cycle.

7. Number of times you travel in a car.

8. Number of times you have sausages for breakfast.

9. Number of times you set foot in that there building on the corner... Yeah, you know which one.

10. Number of times you wash your tea mug.
I'm still going with number of sick days at work.
And as DG seems a remarkably healthy bloke I reckon it'll stay at zero for many a year to come!
Are there graphs showing the progression over the last 12 years? (Yes, I know there are numbers in the 2013 post, but a picture would be interesting. I guess there is a way to persuade Daytum to do it, somehow...)

Love the different links for each letter in February, by the way.
The Count! Woohoo!
The key to getting visitors seems to be writing a lot of words.

Or is it actually that the cause and effect are the wrong way round? When you know you will get a lot of visitors you write a lot....
I think I'm like everybody else in being most interested in what the mystery count could possibly be.
I always like to see how many comments there are on the blog
....and whether a comment in two parts is counted as one comment or two
From reviewing the remarks from previous years, I get the impression that the mystery count is something that DG wants to happen, which implies that he has no control over it. My best guess is that it's the number of celebrity sightings in London during February, or something similar.
My guess is that the DG will not reveal what the mystery item is, /even if it happens/. Nor confirm or deny guesses.

Sort of connected to that, I suspect that the mystery item could not possibly evoke as much interest if revealed (whatever it is) as it does while concealed.
I presume someone has already guessed this, but : is the mystery count the number of people who correctly guess what the mystery count is?
Agree with you Malcolm.

Is it the number of times DG's feet are captured in pictures......
