a canteen.... in the immortal words of Monty Python "you were lucky..."
I think you've overdone the positivity. Just a weeny bit ;)
The buntings out with flags of irony.
That's more like it!
Brilliant!
Wonderful biting prose and exactly how I feel about London too.
Classic...simply classic! Well done, and thank you. If emojis worked here they would be multiple *smiley face*
Where's a "Like" button when you need one? Very nicely done.
Oh dear, I think I know what set you off. You don't have to read all their articles you know.

30 years ago today, I arrived in London. I shall never leave. It would break my heart.
I agree London is a good place to live, especially as the weather has been fine this week.

How nicer it would be if there were less air pollution, and the tubes and trains were not so crowded. Both things that can and must be changed. Crossrail 1 and 2 will give some relieve on the rail system, and Hybrid and electric vehicles help to reduce the pollution, but more will need to be done as the population of London grows.
Another personal dislike of London is the weather. I do not like the cold dark and damp during the winter. I appreciate that London is about 2c warmer than the rest of UK due to heat from buildings, but it still feels cold to me. I guess dg is a hardy type as he says he was out in shirtsleeves even though the early mornings ar chilly now. I normally migrate to warmer climes for some of the winter, but London always draws me back. I flew back home last week to enjoy the piano event now on at Canary Wharf.

Always plenty to do in London, just wish it was sunny everyday!
We should count our blessings more often. Thanks for the reminder, DG!
Ah but dg by getting into work so early, you're missing out on the true joys of the London commute.
It's the dizzying effects of 2 weeks of sunshine that's done this, you know!

You'll be feeling your old self again next week, with the return of the rain. :)
Not a place of "streets paved with gold" or "milk & honey" for all though is it. Too many people in the capital are struggling and have been even before the so-called "austerity" kicked-in...and they'll most likely still be even when the "green shoots of recovery" bear fruit.
dg the blogger turns into dg the novelist - when is the book out?
DG please tell us more about how you developed your personal brand. Were there synergies involved? Are you worried you may end up being Betamaxed? What will it all mean going forward?

Classically clever, as usual; dunno how you manage to amuse and surprise us without fail every day !

But do I detect that perhaps there's just a wee thread of angst still there somewhere, and that everything isn't quite what it seems?

It reminds me of a hilarious column in the Times many moons ago featuring a Christmas round robin from the Du Lally family. Sadly I can't find it, but I remember that at first glance it sounded absolutely wonderful as it proudly recounted all the year's triumphs, such as their teenage daughter Sharon announcing her engagement to Wayne. They were planning to get married in five years' time when he was allowed out on parole. Sharon was also very excited about the news she was expecting in May, and would be celebrating by giving up gin for Lent. But the best news was that Wayne was the brother of one of the fathers of her six children...
DG: what pray is a 'personal brand'?

Loved today's irony especially the pleasure of 'man mountain' Ugh!
@ Julian

It's how DG can be an exemplar, demonstrating a framework of overarching strategic values, going forward, moving the needle and delivering coterminous metrics to his stakeholders.
Can anyone tell me why there is such a rush to close the blinds in the office?
Please?

dg writes: This may help explain.
Though I fear this post may be slightly satirical in nature, it really did make me feel more happy with what I've got on my doorstep in London.
can we have a post tomorrow please about developing your personal brand
I think this blog is his personal brand.
It would seem with this post that the DG's temperment is like a reversible rain jacket - a few days ago it was blue - today bright sunny yellow! I remain unconvined...

My favorite part was when the three clients were all out of the office for your big deadline. I can so relate.
Thanks DG. Very entertaining.
