I was already planning to go for Handball tickets. I remember playing it at school and it's good fun.

I have friends that are going to try for hockey tickets, of course hockey is a major sport here in the Netherlands.

Walking through Victoria Park the other day - blimey they have lots of diggers. I've looked at all the official plans which seem promising, but I suspect you'd have your own angle...?

Also noticed that Thames Water are digging up some VERY newly installed fancy bits of side road along Roman Rd. Do they or Tower Hamlets Council have money to burn?? Grr. Micro- rant over.

More relevant to your local post, but didn't get to it in time. Thanks for ticket hints though!

Useful tactics. I was going through a similar thought process although the women's beach volleyball did waylay me somewhat.

never had a tweet cited in a DG blog entry before... woop!

I do have 1 personal tip - and that's Modern Pentathlon. 5 sports on one ticket; 3 venues on and off the Park; free travel inbetween them; Team GB medal hopes in either men's or women's MP; and one of the last medals of the Games on that exciting final day.

You're namechecked and praised in today's Guardian Money section DG for your work in explaining the complexities of the ticket application system.

As an aside I imagine the number of hits you receive has increased since you started covering this particular topic - I've certainly shared the link with everyone I know who's expressed an interest in going to an event and I'm sure others will have done the same. Thanks for all your efforts.

I really enjoyed the Archery and Handball at the Sydney Olympics. The Paralympics were also a good deal.

Did they print my comment in the gruniad? Awesome.

DG - once again, thanks for the terrific blog and all your 2012 ticketing advice. After the ballot, will you be sharing what you went for and what you got? Obviously not prices and dates, but it would be interesting to hear what sports you want to see.

still haven't got a visa card

A rumour from the BBC the other day suggested that inside knowledge was claiming that Volleyball has the fewest applications so far out of the London events, so that should be a banker. Elsewhere, football in Coventry was there other tip (having been to Coventry, I'm not surprised).

I suspect Handball might sell more tickets than people expect - it's very popular with Europeans (plenty of those resident in London, with the reigning gold medallists being French, one of London's biggest immigrant communities). Plus many people just want to see anything in the Olympic Park, and Handball fits that bill quute well.

The same goes for Hockey - it's hugely popular in India & Pakistan, and so could well go to resident Brits from those countries (especially with no Cricket on the schedule)

Oh why did I only read this just a few minutes after submitting my application just now?! I have gone for the rowing option though, in one of my 14 events. One out of three ain't bad, I suppose. I go to lots of rowing events in real life anyway and they're always exciting.
