Glad to hear they're keeping the lattice bridge over the canal, as it's quite picturesque.
Lovely stuff, and good to see the punctuation back. Exciting to anticipate a new line.

I read that the old Watford Met station is likely to be used for stabling trains.
Gosh Malcolm, that would be like a slap in the face to the Cassiobury folk, would it not.
a few years ago I spent the summer going to the ends of all the underground lines and also investigating some of the stations on the way fairly randomly. I decided that Watford Met line station was the least interesting of all those I'd seen, not very special architecturally and not much nearby to go to look at. but I'm sure commuters who live nearby will miss it.
Watford Met station is Grade II listed, which makes it special architecturally.

And very nearby is Cassiobury Park, which is lovely. (local bias)
I really don't see why they can't keep some services to Watford Met going and make the route from London similar to the line from Baker Street to Chesham and Amersham.
Splitting services between Watford Met and Watford Junction would create unnecessary gaps in the service. On the new link it'd be the difference between a "turn up and go" service and a "turn up and wait".

Plus Ascot Road station is only 1km from Watford Met. An annoying extra 15 minutes walk, but not the end of the world.
Would a Watford - Ricky shuttle be possible.

I understand that part of the costings assumed that equipment (ticket machines, barriers etc) would be transferred from Watford to one of the new stations - obviously not poissible if it is to stay open.
how does dg find the time to do all this .. confused
I'm sure Watford - Ricky shuttle would be possible (there's the loop) but why? Quite enough people get on at Ricky already.
@Andrew WS

Why?
1. keeps Watford Met open, as the good folk of Cassiobury want, without diminishing the service to Watford Junction
2. provides a direct service from Rickmansworth and points north to Watford - with a same-platform interchange at Croxley between the two.

(actually, even more useful would be Rickmansworth - Watford Junction and Baker Street - Watford Met, interchnagin at Croxley. After all, Watford Junction already has a fasser service to the major destinations offered by the Met: Harrow, Wembley, and Euston than anything the Met could offer.
DG- thanks for the update: we must be very close to getting final approval for this.

As for Watford Met, for better or worse, it's fate has been decided but I agree with Timbo that it would be great to have some new services utilising the fabled north curve. In fact the map at the top of the blog suggests some fast services were originally part of the plans but these have been quietly dropped. A route between Aylesbury and Watford would really offer something different.
@splashy
I dunno, I'm confused too, perhaps most readers are. Maybe there is a small team permanently employed producing the blog. By any reckoning it's pretty good value.
I didn't know about this link, I must get up there pronto for a quick snoop around before it all gets fenced off!
Thank you DG, one Croxley Rail Link article produced as requested right at the start of the month. :-) Just my bad luck I was away from a computer until now.

I've written to Mayor Thornhill and all the other key stakeholders about the name of the station on Ascot Road and she seems more sure than the others that Cassio Bridge (or Cassiobridge) will be the name selected. Good. (And yes, it's me on the WO comments making exactly the same point...)
As long as it is not "Casio" as I saw someone suggesting...
The problem with any 'extra' service to Watford Met is the costs associated with running it - at least one extra unit with the necessary staffing and maintenance costs with somewhere to stable it. There simply aren't the benefits to justify these costs, especially on a scheme whose budget is so tight.
Most of the hardware from the stations has already been cleared - the clearance work has already begun, I'm told by a local
I will miss Watford Met, but that does mean a direct link between Harrow and Watford town centres which we don't currently have by rail. I do sometimes take the 258 bus on my way home, but I have to be patient.
Just an update - today (08/03/14) I went to get a photograph of the sign but it and the info board have gone. I wish I knew that before spending two and half hours traveling there!
