Travel further east to Tower Hill and there's a lovely blue backed Olympic lane sign attached to a lamppost beside an Olympic lane in the Tarmac. Both proudly boast the Olympic rings. (And for more sign excitement walk a little further in a westerly direction for an Underground sign clearly not in New Johnson. That one won't be winning any TfL design awards (see DG's post below.)
I've been collecting these too...

There are also a few road signs around the Lea Interchange which point towards the IBC/MBC, and possibly still the northern transport mall.
I think the Olympic rings in the tarmac have been left on purpose. And as for non-conforming underground signs, well wouldn't life be a bit dull if everything everywhere followed the rules?
I wondered if the Olympic Rings might have been left on purpose. I agree about the underground sign but find it unusual that TfL which is usually so protective of its corporate logos and typeface allows this sign in such a tourist hotspot. I don't know if the sign is an example of a predecessor flirting with a different typeface or if the sign was installed by another public body as it points to the subway which leads to Tower Hill station.
...and what with the "WARNING - Laser beam"? Bit extreme...if water cannon use in London is currnetly not permitted who allowed laser beams!
