Ahh Morelli's... happy memories of lots of ice cream earlier this summer between sunbathing sessions on Viking Beach. I could almost be back there again. Thanks DG.
There seem to be many improvement going on in the town, and even Dreamland is being restored as a heritage amusement park and should be reopening Easter 2015, maybe a dg blog from there then.
Great post :)
Don't hold your breath on Dreamland. There's been so many dates announced already. But yes, there does seem to be some progress, and one day it could open...

But this bit of coast is one of the most spectacular bits within the magic 100 miles of Charing Cross, and is well worth another visit - glad you came.
When I was a teenager we had family holidays in Broadstairs most summers.

When I was 20 (on my last holiday there), I proposed to my girlfriend. We got married 2 years later and celebrate our Ruby Wedding next year!

I well remember Knickerbocker Glorys at Morelli's!

Most days were spent on Viking beach, but we sometimes caught the bus (no car in those days) to Joss Bay (nearer to Broadstairs than Botany Bay).

Great memories!
The Morelli's interior is lovely, I hope they intend to keep it like that!
You failed to mention The Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited. Ivor was a favourite for transport fans of a certain age!
Oliver Postgate's memoir Seeing Things is one of the loveliest and most inspiring reads ever.
Good to see some investment going on there. Kent resorts have been left behind. It really doesn't help that to get there from London costs so much more on southeastern trains than trips to the south coast do on southern and south west trains with their frequent promotions and megatrain deals, not to mention Kent routes are slow even if using HS1. The older line trains are way too slow. Even from SE London/Kent boundary areas like Dartford it is cheaper and easier to go into London then out to Brighton etc.
Great to see a nice post on Thanet and especaily Broadstairs. Hope you return soon and take a detour off aroundthe back streets, you might even find us
