I remember reading that the new Overground carriages for Goblin etc. would have a similar layout to the new Crossrail stock with mixed seating. Has that plan changed?

For the Piccadilly line, "No change since the 1970s" isn't strictly true - before their early-nineties refurbishment, the '73 stock had a set of transverse seats in the centre of the car, much like current Bakerloo stock. Additionally, prior to their refurbishment (carried out between 1990-1994), most seats in C stock trains on the Circle line were of the transverse, forwards-backwards facing type - three bays of eight transverse seats, and at the each end of the car, a set of four longitudinal seats.

Updated, thanks.

On the Victoria Line, there was actually 16 forward / backward facing seats in some carriages before the trains were replaced, in four groups or four, similar to the Bakerloo Line. They were not removed on the refurbishment.

This was only in some carriages through, I don't know which ones.
Victoria line, old 1967 tube stock had the 16 forward back seats in motor cars, 1,4,5,8 and all longitudinal in the others which were trailer cars. There were one or two odd cars with trial layouts.

The 1967 stock on the Victoria Line was essentially the same as the 1972 stock still in use on the Bakerloo Line - all longitudinal in the trailer cars, but some transverse in the motored ones (mainly those with driving cabs)

Circle/H&C stock had mainly transverse seating until their refurbishment in the 1980s. [photo]
Jubilee line: the pre-1998 trains were not unrefurbished versions of the current trains; they were the short-lived and largely unlamented 1983 stock.

Bad news on the Bakerloo: the current stock is being refurbished, changing all seats to longitudinal. A few are already in service.

dg writes: The refurbished carriages retain the previous layout. It's still the case that four carriages on each train have some transverse seating, and three carriages have only longitudinal.
On the DLR, all the newer trains (the sleek-looking ones delivered in the late 2000s, ahead of the Olympics) have been refurbished to the new mostly-longitudinal seat layout. These were done without a loss of seats, as you mentioned.

None of the early-90s design (the clunky, square ones) have been changed to match, so they still all have a majority of transverse seating.

@ Dan / DG - I understand the new class 710s will have two interior layouts. For GOBLIN / DC the seats are all longitudinal as the 378s have. For West Anglia services they have a composite longitudinal and small number of transverse seats. I am going back to comments made when the order was first announced and London Overground were specifically asked about seat layouts.

I dare say we will have weeks of "faux" seat outrage from a minority when the trains come into service.
That Class 710 article (and it hasn't been altered recently!) clearly says
"an AC only version with longitudinal and transverse seating (very similar to the S8 units on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground) for use on the West Anglia and Romford-Upminster services, and a dual-voltage version with longitudinal seating for the Watford DC and GOBLIN services. "
Central Line - the 1962 stock was never refurbished. The cars had tannoy installed in the 90s and a lighting upgrade, but they were not altered otherwise.
Correct re the seating
