The gate at Cody Dock is frequently open, especially on Fridays, but I'm not at all sure it's open all the time or exactly when. There's a temporary but perfectly serviceable bridge over the lock gates of the dock itself.

There really needs to be some inspired vandalism at Twelvetrees Crescent. The staircase is there, just with a locked gate. It just needs unlocking. But then I suppose that would create all sorts of elf and safety, accessibility issues. There's also a serviceable tunnel under the bridge, but that's blocked off as well.

There was talk of opening up the fat walk south of Cody Dock but eventually you would get stuck in a light industrial area that would need compulsory purchase and then some fairly extensive cleaning and making good. The next blockage is the back entrance into Canning Town via the Ecology park which I think is also still locked off.

I should add I feel a bit of a connection to this because less than a mile from my home in Ware up the Lea valley, I can see the Meridian laser!

"The organisers estimate that £146,429 is needed to cover planning and installation".

That sounds a pretty precise estimate!
A lovely idea but will it attract the necessary investment? Other planned paths in the area - such as the Roding Valley Way south of Ilford, and the Thames Estuary Path round the Royal Docks - have failed to materialise either for lack of funding, political will, or both. That said, I wish the promoters well.
I walked roughly this route from the cable car to Stratford a couple of weeks ago, and at the southern end it's pretty grim. Obviously this is noted in the decision to start at Star Lane, but from there to the Creek it's just about as bleak as from Limmo Peninsula Ecology Park to Star Lane. It would be great if they thought about a more pleasant and clearer route in tandem with this project, otherwise it is unlikely to be any more frequented than it is at present. My suggestion would be head South to Trinity Buoy Wharf, and then either over the crossing to the cable car, or is the Trinity Buoy Wharf - O2 shuttle still running? http://www.trinitybuoywharf.com/assets/files/TBW%20Ferry%20Service%20Proposed%20Timetable.pdf
In the last week, the crowd-sourcing deadline has changed from February 14th, to March 5th, to March 28th.

Donations aren't yet flooding, in, despite a flurry of publicity this weekend. So far only 5% of the required total has been pledged.
