Surely you shaved properly before meeting the "stakeholders", and wore a shirt and tie?

The wearing of ties seems to be less universal than it once was in our office, even outside "dress down" Friday. People even kick off their shoes occasionally. Some have shoe collections under their desks.

No checking of Twitter in the office? I am shocked and surprised.
(Universal for the men, that is. Very few of the women wear ties.)
I do a considerable part of my work at home. It is convenient to be able to do the work you have to do at any time you choose. The downside is when you can do your work at any time you end up working all the time.
Funny, before I switched on my computer this morning I was thinking how rude people are these days expecting to be responded to immediately, (e-mail, text, ping etc). You're in a face2face meeting and all your electronic equipment is broadcasting deal-with-me-deal-with-me all the time. P*** O** I say. I've got very adept at not answering e-mail/texts/mobiles/phones and can sit at a desk with all these bleeting without feeling any guilt. Funny that!
My other half has been completely work-from-home since his company decided it could save a packet by not renewing the lease on their building about 2-3 years ago. Once the novelty wore off it's been driving both of us crazy! He can't take the isolation that I as a SAHM have become used to, and I have to tiptoe round, synchronising the hoovering around conference calls! And school holidays are worse!
Yes, we seem to have become used to instant communication, and of course in work contexts that's not always possible. Some people tend to think that each and everyone of them is the only concern you have at that particular time. A good thing, to educate people in being a bit polite and patient.
My work involves answering, or processing, a lot of emails. I have to do that quite regularly or else I can get an unworkable backlog. So sometimes I answer emails during the weekend, but in those cases I save my replies as drafts, and only send them on Monday - if people get to know that I'm dealing with their stuff on Saturday and Sunday they'll start emailing me on Saturdays and Sundays, too!
