A journey that has brought back many memories as the entire route was through my working "patch" back in the '80s and '90s. Mention of the One Bell raised a smile, as I knew it back then as the "One Barmaid" due to the impossibly slow lunchtime service. Thanks DG, this post has been a real treat.
If the four nine something is the 498 then I hope you enjoy the route I drive!
Fairly obvious what the last bus will be to get back to Bluewater. I think the next route *might* have a letter prefix but it does depend on just how pedantic DG is being about travelling round the edge of Greater London!

I've done "round London by bus" twice but not quite as far out as DG is doing. One variant was "round Inner London by bus" which was also fun. I have a "round London by night bus" schedule plotted but need a really fine night to do it on. It doesn't stretch right to the edge of London given the structure of night bus services.
The roundabout you mention existing solely for U-turns is actually where the never-built Bexley Village by-pass would have swung off to the east.
On your map the bus goes through some bollards onto a pedestrian area.
That map was only ever supposed to be indicative. It's less indicative now, ta.
Most uncharacteristic of you, DG, but that "blatantly flaunted" should surely be "blatantly flouted".
Perhaps there was a notice on each horse?
didn't know bout the "Live Bus Map", what a joy to discover, thanks DG!

is it just me...or does it remind others of Pac-Man video game?
The road you had never been down was North cray road.
This trip has been very enjoyable so far. I am looking forward to the rest!
