There is always the 100th?!
I'm not sure if it was the football, the shootings, or general other stuff - but the whole thing largely passed me by - it might be that as you get older, celebrations for the queens (insert name of anniversary here) seem to come round quite often.
@E

I think that is the one DG refers to in the reference to a telegram
Ah, the new 'we're all in it together, privatised Royal Family': don't you just LOVE it!
Remember Alan Brien, who for years wrote a column in the Sunday Times? He once told a story about a Frenchman who said to him that when one fancied a lady one should always picture her in the loo, wiping her bottom. Same with the Queen, just a human being like the rest of us, and yet in the 21st century many people still bow and curtsey in a stomach churning act of obsequiousness. Even our beloved leader 'Call me Dave' just seems to love the opportunity to be around royalty and will he report on the 24th that the Queen is 'purring'? Me, I enjoyed the weekend: great rugby, interesting cricket, so-so football (but the Germans were good) plus Lewis winning the GP and no damned Royal Family.
Her charities had to PAY £1500 for a trestle table? Disgusting - that about says it all for me. I watched none of it and never will

Fair enough. I guess the charities had the option of not attending if they didn't like the T&Cs.
Besides, they recouped the money by charging the attendees £150 a head.
the royal family is a sickening waste of money that reinforces the forelock tugging class system in the uk. the sooner it is abolished the better off society will be.
Though it largely passed me by, those that mock should consider the options if we didn't have this family to moan about.
Do you really want a Mbasogo, Putin, Assad, Jong-Un, Lukasehnko, Afewerki etc. instead? You think a***-lickers only exist here do you?
I think it's a odd spectacle to watch Liz and Phil grow ancient in the public eye. From the little news coverage I saw of these recent events, neither seemed to get any joy from them. But then they are 90 and 95 and probably bored rigid of such "celebrations". If we are to have a monarchy, they ought to be allowed to 'retire' at age X and live out their declining years in peace. Like the Dutch, and other "modern" european monarchies.
Great to see the forelock tuggers not out in force here. Always knew DG had a more circumspect and intelligent audience.
No telegrams any more, so just a message.

It sounds awful.
"It needs to be paid for" Oh how the penny drops. Perhaps do as 'others' do; save-up, get a loan or go without?
£150 for a miserable hamper that's merely Marks & Sparks rather than Fortnum's or Harrods and contains only a glorified aircraft meal? Glad I didn't go.

Even if all the profits went to worthwhile charities, they should have provided something much better than that. It makes Ryanair's rip-offs seem positively generous !
I thought it looked all very wonderful and very British, a fantastic achievement for an Old Queen to reach such an age, long may she reign and keep pulling in the tourists.
@ Fishislandskin

Sounds like you been reading too much spin? Who will keep pulling in the tourists when she is gone?
@ Fishislandskin

Fortunately we seem to be getting a better class of tourists these days who aren't hung up on Ruritanian throwbacks. Which is good, as France, and Paris's tourism is climbing faster than ours without the trappings of a live monarchy to sway the figures
