I totally agree about how annoying (and ridiculous) it is that the superhighway and legible london maps don't include the docking stations.

But there is another easy way to find out on the go - there are various smartphone apps that will tell you where the nearest stands are to where you're standing, and also show how many spaces / bikes there are so you know which ones are worth bothering with (these are also useful for pre-checking where will be best to head to near your destination)

I think cities are fascinating and the Boris Bikes are one of those things that make London such fun.

This post is a great on-the-spot analysis. When they launched on Thursday I took one from the Roman Road towards Holborn, got to Old Street in 16 mins and the to the Grays Inn Road in 28, where I dumped the bike to avoid paying an extra quid for the last few mins. I'm such a cheapskate!

They're not perfect, but it's great that we've got them. It feels so civilised to be able to cycle into town then just hand the bike bike back and not have to lock it up, go back to it, or even cycle home. I came back on the tube.

I was in SE1, E3/E14 and E1/E1W yesterday and couldn't escape the things. Outside Borough Market, lots of young, trendy tourist types wobbling (rather than cycling) down the main road. I know the point is it's supposed to be walk up and ride, but surely users should have some proficiency/confidence in riding a bike on busy main roads and thoroughfares (as opposed to the superhighways)? When it comes to cycling in London I'm with DG.

On my walk back home from Bow/Mile End to Shadwell via Stepney Park, I counted 7 docking stations (as well as being astounded by the amount of building and change happening around Queen Mary University/Ocean Estate/Stepney Boys' School/Stepping Stones Farm/Arbour Square).

I also spotted one bike being ridden in turns round Stepney Park by a group of boys highly unlikely to fall in within current user demographics. How easy is it to illegally unlock a bike from its dock I wonder?

what about the ones out west .. haven't some new ones been added around White City/She Bu/Westfield area?

Romford's bus shelters are plastered with adverts for the newly extended Cycle Hire zone. Still ten miles from the nearest docking station, what's the point?

Everybody start guessing why DG's in Romford at 9:48pm on a Sunday... now.

To be fair, the Bow Church docking station was certainly well-used over the weekend. The other side of Bow emerging briefly in the sunshine.

Isn't it a bit pointless to censor <greedy bank> in your text and then show their logo in plain sight i the photos?

'At the end of Bromley High Street is Cycle Hire's northwesternmost docking station' - Northeasternmost, shurely? Although technically it's not that, nor even the most easterly.

Ah yes, northeasternmost, sorry.
But yes, technically also, surely.
