If it is right that the Conservatives are moving to the right, Labour are moving to the left, and the Lib Dems are irrelevant, are we back to the late 1970s/early 1980s? Is there a need for a new third party (neo-SDP)? The Lib Dems might revive over the next few years, but it could take a decade or two.
Maybe it's time for me to drift back to voting Liberal. (as I still call them)
Perhaps if the Greens became less "way out there" they could step into the Lib-Dems shoes?
I'm surprised an alliance hasn't already been mooted.
The Green party are by and far have the most socialist / marxist policies on the political spectrum.
Lib Dem membership has increased significantly after both the last general election and referendum. While a long way to go they picked up seats and a council at the last local elections in May.
The Labour right is planning to move the party back to the 'centre ground' where lots of 'nice' capitalists are already preparing to put money into a rebranding of the Blairite position. Blair simply smiled a lot, lied a lot, and established the framework for privatising schools and the NHS, and for a chummy relationship with the US Republicans war party.
