We do do some things really slowly...
Blimey, Water Chariots made it that far? Shocked. The only time I ever passed any of their boats the oppo (I hesitate to call him a captain) was sat inside having a snooze...
A person working at the Orbit told me this week that they are hoping to reopen the Orbit next Easter. Positioned where it is I suppose that area of the park could be sectioned off to allow them to open, (and make money), whilst work carries on in the rest of the park.
Thanks, DG, you always answer my questions almost before they're asked. Your tip on Eton Manor Gate was brilliant - never any wait for entry. See you on the Greenway!
It is amazing to see that the "end of the road" is actually just the beginning, and the Olympics will continue to serve you with fresh topics to write about for at least another 4 years!
London Pleasure Gardens, Leyton food market, Water Chariots... Is there any Olympics satellite business who was actually successful?
No chance, I suppose, of seeing that £300,00 of public money again.

So who's gonna get Water Closet's 15 (now 14?) year licence to operate on the Lea?

Are those little boats going cheap? Anyone want to give it a go? :-)
ah yes water chariots, have cycled past it most mornings, who ever thought that might work?...bit sad really. Presumably soemone from the water authorities gave it the go ahead
It's strangely entertaining to read the astroturf comments to the old posts about the doomed Water Chariots. The naivety of the fictional "Laura Eden" especially sounds ominous in retrospect.
We had some of that kiss-cam stuff when I was at the Park. I know they do it in American sports venues but I also found it a bit awkward and artificial.

Presumably there was a general formula based around "We will rock you"/twirling dancers/mexican waves and kiss-cam in quite a few of the venues?

Looking forward to getting back on the Greenway. Hope they'll still be doing the bacon baguettes in the ViewTube! I'd seen an earlier reopening date, but Dec 1 sounds right.
They've got some stables to dismantle up there. I think they're visible in your shots from the Orbit. I took a good look & asked one of the Yorkshire Police Horse officers & they said it was the day stables for rest periods. I thought they were the neatest stables I've seen - no hay nets & wheelbarrows lying around!
O dear - guess who had left the last two bits of the Capital Ring to do in June just as the Greenway closed.I am not sure walking from East Ham to the Olympic Park gate counts.
Why are we barred for so long?
I know it's cruel to point and laugh at people when they're down, but Water Chariots deserves it. Bunch of chancers.

I believe the Pleasure Gardens have already gone into administration.
So who were the chancers behind water chariots and pleasure gardens?
Yes it is cruel to laugh and point. Get back in your hole.
