There seems to be a weird view that (as they used to say about the old East Germany) everything that isn’t forbidden is compulsory. If you don’t feel safe going to a pub or art gallery, don’t go - no one’s forcing you. If you want to stay more than two metres away from people, do so (although good luck on the narrow pavements of London). We can’t all move at the pace of the slowest...
1m + wider use of facemasks (obligatory in crowded indoor spaces) is pretty much where I stand, with restrictions on large gatherings (say of more than 50? 100? 500? people. not sure. But these regulations must be enforced, as they have not been recently). Clearly some caution is still required.
1 metre is in practical terms what most people are observing at present, unless there are specific instructions to the contrary, such as lines on the ground.
The government have 'priced in' more deaths caused by the second wave, so go crazy. We'll be back at LOCK Backup before long
Well said Baldassaro.
As noted elsewhere, the real risks are becoming much better understood - for a start, you are extremely unlikely to be infected when outside and in motion - and policy must reflect those. People are not dropping like flies, or transmitting COVID-19 to people who drop like flies, after meeting others or demonstrating outside.

My big concern is winter, when people are forced back inside and there is a lack of natural ventilation flow. I had an interesting discussion with someone in Arizona, which now has serious problems with COVID-19: there it is too hot, rather than too cold, to be outside.

The current methods were put in place because there was nothing better - or, at least, nothing better without massive, intrusive surveillance which would currently be unacceptable, although that may shift.

In 2220, or maybe even 2120, people will look back and say "Lockdown? Self-isolation? Social distancing? What barbarities were those?"
My unlock feelings are definitely box 4 "ease up some more", but due to the baseline of German infection numbers.

My kids have been back to school for 6 weeks, and kindergarten for 4. Once the kindergarten kids start playing with friends, you really have to trust that the infection rate is low, as it is impossible to keep 3 to 6 year olds socially distanced!

I've been able to eat and drink outdoors for 5 weeks, and indoors for 4 weeks. Heck, I even had an overnight in a hotel, with a socially distanced evening meal and buffet breakfast, and 2 days in Legoland (limited number of guests, very high levels of hygiene on the rides) 2 weeks ago.

I'm happy to do this as the numbers here are really under control (more recent hot spots in an abattoir and a high density block of flats elsewhere in the country excepted) . I'm not sure I'd be quite so happy doing these things in the UK still though.
I think the risk from the virus itself is now outweighed by the risk to people’s livelihoods and mental wellbeing. We’re also not in the same position we were in at the start of this crisis. We know more and we have built more capacity to cope.
Keen as. I want to stay away from home just for something different to do.
I'm with Sam.
Although my personal risk assessment remains unchanged, I think it's appropriate to relax the restrictions now - when the weather allows people to meet and mingle outside - so that the likely return of significant restrictions during Winter can be borne with greater fortitude.
Also with Sam.
Face masks are a must and we need to remain cautious, especially indoors, but another lockdown would be the worst thing to do right now.
