Oh dear. At this time I was at the height of my Olivia Newton-John obsession. 'Physical' was on my record player constantly...

*hides in shame*

Specially for you, Girl: [pictures] [video]

There's nothing left to talk about, unless it's horizontally.

"The best Christmas record in the world ever: Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping"

OMG! You and me both! And it's currently setting the UK's download chart on fire, at number 164 this week. (I expect it to climb later today, along with the 24 other Christmas hits in the top 200 downloads.)

PS. I know Moosey doesn't make much sense either, but it's definitely not a Mussey!

I was/am a Human League purist who hated it when Phil brought the girls in.... but "Don't You Want Me" remains one of the finest moments of pop ever.....

Didn't it snow that Christmas?

dg remembers: Yes, lots fell, but not on the 25th

thanks for this. that's the best review/synopsis of the tune i've ever read. it blows me away that 25 years later, the song still resonates with people.

best/cheers...

<glows>

That video has killed my overwhelming love of that song.

I wasn't sure if it was the actual day but I have pictures of me in a Hawaian shirt in the snow in the garden of my parent's house opposite a photo of Phil Oakey on Xmas TOTP in an old photo album.... screen grabs were somewhat morte basic in those days!

Bonus points if you can name the Central Line tube station in the opening few seconds in the Bedsitter video...

Lemme hear your body talk... your body talk... Lemme hear your body talk...

AARGH! Get it out of my head!!!

"Christmas Wrapping" is my favourite Xmas single of all time as well, ever since I bought that Ze compilation 25 years ago. (Although Cristina's "Things Fall Apart" comes pretty close.) YouTube SchmuTube; I'm getting goosebumps just from the version that's playing inside my head.

Of the rest, the Madness, Human League and Soft Cell singles are all Right Up There.

Don't think it was a Christmas song but does anyone remember Blancmange and a song about being on the ceiling? I have been looking for it, but can't remember the track's proper name.

dg helps out: Living on the Ceiling [video] [TotP]

'Christmas Wrapping' has surged up the UK's download chart today, from 164 to number 91.

Thanks for the other message, dg. How marvellous to get a comment from the writer! Superb. I knew Mike loved it too. (See comment above.)

jeezuz...i know the tune is more popular in the UK than in the USA, but...jeezuz!

thank you, oh "green & pleasent land"!

best/cheers...

Maybe a touch off-topic (not really, it's WAY off-topic...), but something has always bothered me about the song 'Do They Know It's Christmas'...

The line 'There won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime'... The parts of Africa referred to here, the tribal, down-trodden, poor-as-snot areas - aren't they largely equatorial? Is there ever snow?

Was Sir Bob speaking metaphorically, so we Americans and you Europeans could relate?

Aaaaarrrghhh!

Anyroad, love lurking your blog. Love London, miss it terribly; maybe next May...

Dave

DG-That's it Living on the Ceiling. Thank you. Music reference point, TfL genius, Blogger extraordinaire...don't suppose you could help sort out the rest of my Christmas shopping?
