Very much of an age to enjoy all of that and remembering how fresh and new it seemed; the Lunatics are still running the Asylum.
Rumba!

Squeeze, definitely Squeeze.
I was only humming that song the other day; not sure why, I haven't heard it for ages.

I'm with you, BW, "Labelled With Love" ia a beautiful song from the Deptford boys best ever album, "East Side Story". Check out "Tempted" and "Is That Love?" as well. Poptastic.

Altered Images. Wow, I haven't thought of that band for a long time. Loved "happy birthday, happy birthday."

I was a dj at my uni radio station ("WUSO, 10 watts of commercial free power") back then, playing all those, playing most all of these, plus a heavy rotation of Pretenders (it was Ohio, after all).

I loved the Fun Boy Three at this time. Have to say the Olivia Newton-John video was one of the worst ever. Cringey indeed.

Never was much of a Police fan, but I *loved* "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", and still do - it's got a wonderful surging sense of joy running through it.

Second favourite at the time would have been "Favourite Shirts". Third favourite: "Me & Mr Sanchez". Blue Rondo were great - and a superb live band, although they never toured properly as that would have been "rockist".

I want to cry! Just how sad does the current chart sound compared to these gems?

I can almost hear Tony Blackburn counting them down.

I think you'll find that "The most successful chart hit ever written about shirts" was my own Lipstick On Your Collar. Not only did it reach one place higher than those lovely Haircut boys, but it has become an enduring classic which even had a TV series named after it. I never tire of singing it.

Good to see you loved Animal Magnet as well. I don't think I was aware of it in 1981, but it was a floorfiller in Leamington Spa by 1983 and was always a floorfiller at Aston Uni for all the time I was there [1984-88]. I always wondered if it was just a Midlands thing (like King - we loved Love And Pride on its first release, long before it was re-released and made no.2). I do have the Animal Magnet 12". It's one of those records that people either love or don't know at all, and I am reliably informed by some Goths I know that it still goes down a storm at Goth events in Brum (even though it's not exactly a Goth track, musically speaking!)

I, I, me, me, run, run, run!

There was something midly hypnotic about Claire Grogan.

Back then she was like Kylie Minoque but with talent.

I wouldn't kick her out of bed even today.

OMD cool band, perhaps too cool for their own good , but I can still listen to them today and enjoy, so OMD would be my choice.

My favourite eighties band were Human League.

I don't remember dance group 'Zoo' but I do remember 'Hill's Angels'. Instant erection time.Quality television, the sort of smut that you only get at your local pole dancing club now-a-days ( so I am told )
