I agree. That old sign shows real craftsmanship. And don't you love that full stop? Very Victorian.

The Old London Map site IS fantastic. Some of the grotty places I have to go to in North London were actually quite charming once upon a time. Next time I am in Edmonton I shall visual the Old Map!

I can't believe I'm the first person to say this ?!

"Mornington Crescent", surely?

Sorry. Coat. Exit, etc...

Love the old map links: very useful. Thanks.

i cant believe they seem to have made a conscious decision to leave the old sign visible and then made a 'reasonable' looking modern sign but then just slapped it on the wall where its landed without even taking the slightest consideration for aligning it with the rest of the items around it

Dear Mr Geezer,

Surely one street called Mornington is more than enough for any self-respecting city?

In my usual not quite on-topic way ...

When I was a small boy my mother told me the story of Islehurst Close in Chislehurst. According to her the initial C and h went missing and the residents of said close gave their address to all and sundry as Islehurst Close to embarrass the council in to getting around to replacing the street sign. Which they did - and thats how it officially became Islehurst Close.

Ian, the Heimlich-Brown manoeuvre has been banned since the 96 symposium, sorry.
