Mais ou sont les feux d'artifice?

is that surname list in rank order? I seem to remember finding out 20 years ago that Lefe(b)vre was the most common name. Or maybe I just thought that cos it's the equivalent of Smith (20 years is a long time to hold on to that kind of trivia)...

Apparently, Kevin was the most popular name in France a few years back...

Come come DG, prenoms.com suggests your girls' and boys' lists date from 2003...

We don't mention Kevin chloe. Oh no.

Wayne, Martin has always been a very usual surname hence the saying "il y a plus d'un âne qui s'appelle Martin". Maybe if you group together all the variants of the name (Fabre, Faure, Lefevre etc) it might add up to more than Martin. Lefevbres' ancestors would have acquired their surnames from their trade (farriers) which explains why there are so many of them. If you want to check their geographical distribution by department throughout France you could try the following site http://www.geopatronyme.com/index.htm

This surnames list is clearly wrong. I remember very well from school that nearly ALL French families are called Dupont.

I wonder how many French babies are called Zinedine...
