And still no sign of HM The Queen.

The place is named after her, and opens tomorrow, so shouldn't she be popping down to unveil something?
Excellent post Olly! First dg guest-post? First one I remember.

dg, you make a very good point about QE and QEOP. I hope, similarly, Olly will be cutting the ribbon on the section of the Park he named.
If she comes to open it, will she jump out of a helicopter like she did on opening night....?
Perhaps the biggest dg guest post to date - I (and others) wrote part of a post in 2009.

I'm looking forward to having a little wander tomorrow morning. From what I've seen, the transformation of the site's still not finished, so I look forward to updates for years to come.
From the news last night she's in the Vatican presenting a hamper to the Pope, so not sure she'll be back in time.
I was surprised to see from the shots comparing 2012 and today that some of the fencing seems to have disappeared. How did that get past Health and Safety? Or have the photos been transposed?
'Victimised' ?!!? Hope you are OK, DG.......

Looking forward to going back more than ever after that post. The before and after pics really illustrate DG's point about the current absence of flowers
I was always disappointed with the name. It could have been named after any of the actual heroes of the games - or one, on behalf of them all. Instead it's named after someone who managed to look totally disinterested at the opening ceremony and even Huw Edwards' commentary sounded embarassed as the camera showed her picking her fingernails
Seems Prince Harry went instead of the Queen : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-26883300
PeteC - couldn't agree more.

DG - yes a guest post, what a great idea, especially in the context of an unwanted invite. Ollie has done a great job. Looks like he has a great job too. The stuff at CASA looks fascinating. I rember Mike Batty lecturing a group of us on this in the mid 90s.

Ollie's blog mentions a fascinating sounding 'mapping party'. I can't get the full link to paste on my phone but it's the eponymous post for 29th March at blog.oomap.co.uk Beer and pizza after in Crate too. Unfortunately I can't attend but it sounds great and I'm sure others might be interested.
Cornish Cockney,The Queen only went on a day trip to Rome and the Vatican.
I seem to remember reading last year that the Queen, who is 87 years old, is performing less official engagements now and letting younger members of the family take on the role. Her next big public event is on Tuesday to welcome the President of Ireland to Windsor.

Weather permitting I will revisit the Olympic Park Saturday.
Going to be a lot of you visiting on Saturday.

Let's have a party!
@ PeteC

Guess "they" went for the easy option.
If named it after someone else then turns out they did something bad in their private life then might have to go about changing the name. Me, I think should just been called what it was/is/might be ...The London Olympic Park. Considering we once staged the games at short notice (1908) it could be used again in the near future considering natural and man-made issues requiring a short-notice change of venue.
The most early next possible date would I think be 2032...and just in time for HS2?! USA has held the games twice with a 12 year gap, so not outside the bounds of extreme possibilities!
I absolutely love the first photo on this post. It reminds me of a painting, but which, and by whom?
@ Great Aunt Annie, the basic design of this is similar to Hobbema; The Avenue, Middelharnis (National Gallery), but the trees are like those by Hockney in his exhibition at the Royal Academy about two years ago
Nice guest post. Interesting though the pics are, they are a tad uninspiring. What happened to all the 'oomph' they laid on for the Olympics? Is that all gone now? And will the flower meadows return?
@Amber. Many thanks. Yes, it was Hockney I had in mind, and now I realise I was thinking of his series Looking at Woldgate Woods.
