We are under strict orders to record Coast while my son is away (that and Monster Moves).

Actually, I think Roald Dahl regularly uses the word candy in the book.

That's one hell of an odd film though...

Kirk - I've revisited my 1974 copy of the book (Puffin, 20p) and I can find only one mention of candy (there's a button in the Great Glass Elevator labelled "THE ROCK-CANDY MINE"). There are, however, hundreds and hundreds of "chocolate"s.

Not even the American kids in the book say 'candy', whereas it really grates to hear it uttered by all the Britons in the film.

I hate 49 percent and boys on the new royksopp, but otherwise i agree, it is lovely.

in charlie and the chocolate factory, not only did they train squirrels to do the nut cracking, the entire first room with the sugar grass and chocolate river etc was a sound stage, not CGI.

Depp really should get an Oscar soon.

For something.

I watched Pirates of the Caribbean again the other day. Marvellous.

Depp deserves an oscar for just existing IMHO.

i've had him. he's not much to write home about between the sheets.

I agree with the "candy" comment wholeheartedly. I also noticed Charlie saying "vacation" instead of holiday, and trousers referred to as "pants". Also the first flashback to Wonka's childhood, which would be (or appeared to be) in the 50's or 60's had him playing 'Trick or Treat', something which has only infiltrated these shores in recent years.

Thanks for the link to my tornado snaps, dg. I'm very happy that more people are seeing them. (I've checked, and people ARE clicking on the link.)

I'm also looking forward to seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, partly because I loved the books as a child, and the original film, which I didn't see until many years after it came out. In about 1996, I was lucky enough to play the role of Willy Wonka in nine performances of the show, at the Crescent Theatre, here in Birmingham. It was such fun, scaring whole packs of Brownies during the Easter holidays, as I played him even darker than Gene Wilder did. Oh, and our children were played by adults, which gave it a whole new twist too...

yeah. Monster Moves is the most
interesting prog on TV at the moment

My favourite bit of C&TCF is the Flags of the World gag.
