I love the Stow. It's a rare bit of success in an industry that's really gone to the dogs (so to speak) - Hackney and Harringay closed, and more recently and tragically, Catford (if you can get over the irony of a town called Catford that races dogs).
Hope you didn't bet on the usual three-legged donkeys that swallow all my money (their form tends to read SlwAwy, BdlyBmpd1, TtlSht)

Crayford's another good night out. Spent a happy Saturday there a few years ago.

I have a photo of a rather run-down Catford Stadium here, taken last month.

Where do they get jockeys small enough ?

I try and get to the Stow about twice a year, but I tend to eat before I go as the food is a bit dire. I never win much (if anything) but it is a good laugh.

I've been to Wimbledon dogs a few times and it's a good night out for a group of friends to go on. No shortage of beer and plenty of laughs.

No trifectors? I always go for 351 and come out even....and I'm sure it's called The 'stow

And if you get tempted into buying stakes in a greyhound you could read Man buys dog by David Matthews and see first how not to do it.

thats me!!!

Ahh, the dogs! 2 minute cab ride, or a 20 minute walk home. Usually after frequenting Charlie Chans nightclub underneath. Did you venture in there? Probably didn't miss much, as the footballers nowadays go to Faces in Ilford.

But as for Walthamstow dogs, I thought traps 5 and 6 always won there. I'll have to check that again before I go again...

I grew up in Catford and there wasn't much to do apart from staring at the cat and drinking in the Ram, so I spent many an evening at the Dog Track. Very sad to see it run down now.

I'd feel better about it if they could come up with something nicer to do with the dogs after they have reached the end of their racing lives. The more reputable breeders and tracks apparently comply with certain rules, but the rest... well, let's just leave it at that.

Agree with Nic,I always go for a 10p trifecta combination 345 (costing 60p) along with a bet on a straight winner. The trifecta always seems to come out at least evens but usually better. My wife once won £90 on one of these at the Stow.

Hmmm...i believe food at romford is better-it's certainly not good at the stow. Was most amused there once to see some wideboy cheering on his mutt of choice with the words 'c'mon you f***in' tosser'. Ascot it is not

Wimbledon ain't bad either. I only go the dogs about four or five times a year, but a bit more than Inspector Sands...'I went to Catford about a decade ago & never got round to going back'...Shame on you! It's precisely because of people like you who don't get round to going to the dogs that they shut down. disagree about Crayford, I think it's a terrible place to go dogs. But at least it's near the station I suppose..
