Ah!! This is where I went wrong in physics. I thought with Kepler's third law of motion, equal areas of orbit would be swept out in equal times but clearly I was in error.

See, I thought that too, but I triple checked and the seasons really are all different lengths. More to do with orbital eccentricity I believe.
