ahh what an excellent subject, I remember singing that when I was at primary school (in Newcastle ) although I was always puzzled by the last two lines, which don't really scan.

London's burning and London Bridge is falling down spring to mind, but I doubt that either of those rhymes would last a week.

There's also Pop goes the weasel:

   Up and down the City Road
   In and out the Eagle

...is a reference to the Eagle pub on City Road in Islington.
