No more than two books each, please.

No.5 A Tale of Two Cities

No 14 is Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (I did it for O level so forever etched in my memory)

No 8 is 1984 by George Orwell

9 Anna Karenina
10 War and Peace

3) Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, a great book made into a great film by Hitchcock
15) Lord of the Flies, probably the first book that really turned me on to literature as a child

16. Catcher in the Rye - J.D.Salinger

*cough* 6 would be The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett, and I think 11 is Little Women by Thingy Alcott.

2) Kane and Abel - Jeffrey Archer.

#13 I think is "Cannery Row" by John Steinbeck
not a clue on the other 4.
Actually, having checked the list, it's got to be "The grapes of wrath"

No 4 is the fabulous - and forever escaping a book clearout in my flat - 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley

11 is Little Women

No 1 The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

Enid Blyton isn't number 1...

Number 1 is - no, I've had two already, and I Googled it which is cheating. Great book though.

I gave up and googled #1 as well. *blush* It is a brilliant book. One of the few to make me cry as a child.

Is by any hideous chance #7 from "Girls in Love" by Jaqueline Wilson- girly tweenie stuff that it is?

NO! I take it back, I think that one's "The Magic Faraway Tree" (#7). It has that beautiful simplistic Blyton feel to it.

Just 1 and 12 still to be guessed.

12 is... Black Beauty? It's been a long time since I read it, but it seems the most likely novel out of that list for that excerpt.

Oh, and since I can guess two, is 1 from Watership Down?
