Richard also did it in 2006, DG

Ah, excellent! I've done just about all of this over the past couple of years, on and off, and it is brilliant for taking you through parts of London you wouldn't otherwise know about. Looking forward to your posts :)

I definitely recommend getting the book to take along, too -- the text can get you out of a spot if the map isn't clear, and it describes some (but by no means all) of the things you can see along the way.

You're not too early for the (Silver) Jubilee Walkway - it's been around for 34 years. I think you meant the (Diamond) Jubilee Greenway - indeed that's where your hyperlink goes.

Excellent blog as usual - I'm impressed by how you find something interesting to say, or have the time to research, every day.

I also walked the length of it a couple of years ago. I'd recommend the official route as the directions are good and it has detailed OS maps (although in parts where you're walking on roads an A-Z is possibly more useful!). Don't be put off by the start though, it does improve (and how can it take a whole year to build a new staircase!!)

Good on you. When I did it, it took me 11 summer afternoons. (Or 9 and a couple of catch-up days to finish it.) The signage is generally excellent (except in the borough of Barnet and a few crap bits here and there) but it's a really rewarding wander that'll redefine the city for you. In fact, I was selling it to a couple of mates last night...

I'm hoping to start the London Loop as soon as the weather improves.

My parents have done it (in their 70s)!

A really interesting blog!

Good luck with the walk! For the most part it was an enjoyable experience, passing some interesting places and some nice cafes! We used the print-it-yourself guides, which were adequate for getting around but would have liked to see more background detail.

I did about three-quarters of the Capital Ring in the summer of 2005, starting off in Highgate Wood and going the long way round as far as Woolwich. After getting locked in a park in Woolwich rather early on a later summer Sunday evening, I decided that enough was enough.....
